NFF Donates Equipment to Local Schools

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

National Flag Football Organization Makes Major Equipment Donation To Broward And Palm Beach County Schools

January 30, 2015 – National Flag Football has just announced a significant donation to schools in Broward and Palm Beach Counties in Florida. The organization is the nation’s leading NFL flag football program and is active in helping youth organizations and schools become involved in the game of flag football. The donation to the Broward and West Palm Beach schools was in the form of $20,000 worth of flag football equipment that will be shared across both jurisdictions.

The specific donation targets 100 elementary schools in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Each school is receiving flag football kits and a curriculum guide that will help physical education teachers incorporate flag football activities into their current curriculum and daily routines.

In addition to the donated material, National Flag Football representatives traveled to the area and hosted several training sessions for teachers. During these training sessions, which were open to any teacher who chose to attend, the National Flag Football team explained the benefits of flag football and offered tips on how to effectively introduce flag football into the classroom.

National Flag Football officials understand that budget cuts have left many school jurisdictions without access to football equipment, and introducing flag football is a way to introduce kids to the sport of football without the level of expense and equipment needed to implement full blown tackle football programs.

“Our physical educators found immediate uses for the National Flag Football equipment.  They were anxious to try out the skills learned from the flag football training and to incorporate the equipment into suggested lessons from our standards and research-based curriculum. We are very thankful for the equipment and hope that many students make the choice to be more active, thanks to partnerships like ours with NFF, and dedicated PE professionals working together!” Charmain Sutherland,  PEP Grant Facilitator, Physical Education Broward County Schools

National Flag Football also did their research and crafted a curriculum that helps schools meet the Florida Benchmark PE Standards that require PE teachers to cover the fundamentals of any game they teach to small groups.

The donated equipment is of great value to the schools and the teachers in Broward and Palm Beach Counties and both jurisdictions plan to take full advantage of their new equipment to introduce a new generation of students to the fun and the benefits of flag football.

Florida is the most recent state to join the National Flag Football organization and leaders of the organization see Florida as a natural growth area with the popularity of football at the grade school, middle school, high school, college and professional levels. Florida also offers almost year-round opportunities to participate in flag football outdoors, and with three NFL professional teams in the state, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins, Florida is the perfect choice for attention from National Flag Football.
